Who is the
Winking Wizard?

Graham Brooks is a professional guitarist, composer, producer and educator. From basements to stadiums, Graham has travelled the world playing guitar professionally with acts like Witch and Sasami Ashworth, in support of bands such as Japanese Breakfast, HAIM and Mitski. With his own band he has shared the stage with everyone from Mastodon to The Flaming Lips and many, many more. Graham has performed live on KEXP, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and at world-renowned musical festivals such as Levitation Fest, Desert Daze, SXSW, Winterland, Sled Island, Savannah Stopover, Zona RockFestival and many more. Former lead guitarist and songwriter of Vermont-based heavy metal band, BARISHI (Season of Mist Records), Graham is no stranger to the mystical forces of guitar-driven music.

Beginning his musical quest at the age of four with a child-sized electric guitar in hand, Graham’s wizardly training in the art of shred quickly became his life’s work. Graham's humble beginnings in the dimly lit basements of friends' houses laid the foundation for his musical odyssey. Those early days of experimentation and camaraderie instilled in Graham a deep appreciation for the power of music to unite and uplift. Performing in local bars and clubs provided the canvas for Graham to paint sonic tapestries, captivating audiences with his fluid melodies and blistering solos.

Graham has a holistic teaching style that aims to demystify the fretboard, and develop systems for truly understanding the neck. He puts an emphasis on discovering your unique voice on the instrument through improvisation. He teaches a wide variety of techniques that are useful in tackling difficult and fast passages such as sweeping, tapping, economy and swybrid picking. His teaching incorporates music theory, ear-training, application of scale systems and intervallic relationships. His goal is to help you develop a tool chest of techniques and knowledge that will allow you to express yourself, uninhibited by technical or knowledge restraints.

His goal as a guitar educator is to unlock the true nature of the guitar for his students; to find the limitless joy of exploration therein, guiding his students to develop their musical wizardry, and find the fulfillment in committing to a worthy creative practice.
